Robert Shives, owner of Cascadian Design Studio, started his business in the furniture industry creating wooden furniture for lodges out of timber and lumber from the Pacific Northwest. Located in Seattle, WA, Cascadian Design has used the unique "Cascadia Style" to develop a very successful business.
Robert has been able to expand his business to include gift items for the lodge stores, including picture frames, mirror frames and lamp shades carved with the lodge's architectural details. Every design is uniquely created for the customer, with their needs in mind. "We are a custom product and services supplier and create art work just for you, then we build your products with your ideas," Robert explained.
The Challenge:
In the woodworking industry, it's difficult to expand your current product line without purchasing many different types of tools to do it. This was the challenge Cascadian Design's owner Robert Shives was up against. His craftsmanship involved a great deal of hand carved and intricately cut pieces, which was difficult at times. He was looking for more opportunities to expand his business by personalizing his products for customers. When a customer was looking for a special piece for a gift, he wanted to be able to create a unique product just for them. All of these items were concerns and he wasn't sure how he was going to accomplish them.
The Solution:
With the discovery of Epilog Laser's Mini 18, 35 watt system, Robert soon discovered that he didn't need to buy many different tools to expand his woodworking business. Not only could he create intricately cut and inscribed products, but so much more! Since purchasing his laser, he has been able to easily and quickly update and expand his product line for his customers. As he explains, "no one builds or creates the smaller lasers like Epilog!"
Cascadian Design Studio has successfully increased their product line to include baby cribs, garden nameplates, glassware items, and more, all custom designed for their customers. And all it took was CADVANCE software and an Epilog Laser to create, as they explain on their website, "Lightening in a Can."
